Chris Beard, Rooftops director
Kia ora, I'm Chris. I lead Rooftops and co-teach a postgraduate International Education course at Victoria. I've worked in international education for twenty four years. The coolest insight from this experience I guess is learning to appreciate not only cultural differences but also discovering each young person as a finite mystery.
From 2004 to 2016 I taught on Victoria University of Wellington's Foundation Studies programme teaching Academic Writing and New Zealand Literature and working pastorally one-to-one with at students. It was a heap of fun teaching some of New Zealand's best film and literature to young people from a diverse range of countries.
I grew up on a sheep and beef farm and was educated at Apiti Primary School, along with Wal Footrot (see Footrot Flats 1st Ed.). This means I know how to drench, muster and dag (figure out what that means!) I’m married to Rach, have four lively young children and attend Karori Baptist Church.
